As its name would imply, the Details Tab is a view within Highway Weather that allows travelers to dig into their upcoming trip's details.
The Details Tab lets travelers view each sequential "Forecast Point" in greater detail. This will help you gain a deeper understanding of what's ahead, view any alert details, and ensure you're fully informed of when the best time is to take rest stops.
Speaking of rest stops, the Details Tab allows you to directly input pit stops of whatever length of time you see fit.
This article is a deep dive into the Details Tab's features and functionality.
In this article, you'll learn about:
- Best time to leave
- Breakdown of each "Forecast Point"
- What a weather "Alert" is
- Adding Rest Stops
How do I get to the Details Tab?
In order to reach the Details Tab, you'll need to input your starting location, destination(s), set your trip's settings (optional but highly recommended), choose a route, tap "Plan Ahead", and from the Maps Tab, tap the Details Tab (see screenshot below).
Upon tapping "Details", you'll be directed to the Details Tab shown below:
Now, let's break down each component of the Details Tab!
Best time to leave
One of the first things travelers will notice upon arriving at the Details Tab is the green banner suggesting the "Best time to leave".
The suggested time of departure is based on upcoming weather, but travelers can move the Time Slider to reflect their preferred time of trip commencement.
You'll notice that as you manipulate your departure time by moving the Time Slider, the Forecast Points displayed in the list will change to reflect future weather and road conditions.

What a "Forecast Point" is & how they're displayed in the Details Tab
Forecast Points are calculated based on your ("user-input") average speed for your journey and are automatically plotted along your route at roughly one-hour increments.
Each Forecast Point can provide relevant weather and road-advisory information. The Forecast Points that are displayed show:
- The time of day at which you'll arrive to the Forecast Point
- The name of the area
- The temperature at the Forecast Point at your time of arrival
- Additional, relevant weather information
- Any weather / road advisories that correspond to your time of arrival at that Forecast Point
(Note: the numbered list corresponds with the below screenshot's number labels.)
Alerts explained
When weather and road alerts and warnings exist at any point in your journey, Highway Weather will make sure you're covered by clearly displaying anything you should know about right on screen.
You'll see a red "Alert" button, and when you tap it, you'll see a full report of what, when, and where so you're fully prepared and can adapt accordingly.
Below are screenshots of how Alerts work inside the Details Tab:

Note: Alerts will only display when there is a weather or road alert TO display. The "Alerts" icon won't appear if there's nothing to report.
Adding rest stops
You can add rest stops to your journey under the Details Tab by tapping on the "pause" icon next to the location at which you'd like to stop.
Tap the "plus" and "minus" icons to add and subtract time to your rest stop. As of now, time changes are displayed in one-hour increments.
As you add a rest stop and increase / decrease its duration, you'll notice the next forecast points in your journey change to reflect conditions based on your new arrival times at each point.
Quick(ish) Stop This stop displays something akin to a dinner stop or extended rest stop a traveler may use to refresh and regroup. |
Overnight Stop Note the time & weather changes for future Forecast Points as time is added / subtracted to stops.
