Welcome to Weather Route's Highway Weather application! This glossary of terms covers the jargon relevant to getting the best experience out of the Highway Weather application.
Average Speed |
This is a user-input field found under the Settings screen. Set your speed to the approximated average for your journey. |
Best Time to Leave / Best Departure Time |
Highway Weather suggests the best time for you to leave based on your route choice and upcoming weather and road conditions at each point in your journey. |
Destination | You'll set your destination or multiple destinations from the home screen of Highway Weather. Your destination(s) can be a city / state, a zip code, or an address. |
Details Tab | The Details Tab is a thorough description of the condition details of each Forecast Point throughout your journey. Rest Stops are also added within the Details Tab. |
Device Mode | "Device Mode" is a display setting option that sets the Highway Weather display to the same theme (light or dark) as your mobile device's operating system. This setting can be changed within the Settings Screen. |
Drive Now | Drive Now is a feature in the paid version of Highway Weather that gives you real-time weather and road-condition updates as you travel along your route. |
Extended Tab | The Extended Tab displays the daily, extended forecast summary for each Forecast Point in your journey. |
Forecast Point | Each routed journey is comprised of Forecast Points. Forecast Points are calculated along your route at roughly one-hour increments, and are used as points of reference for you throughout your journey. |
Home (Destination) Screen | The Home Screen is the first screen you'll see upon opening Highway Weather. Here, you'll enter your starting location and destinations, and you'll find links to Settings, subscription upgrades, and Customer Support. |
Map Tab |
The Map Tab is a powerful view within Highway Weather that allows travelers to digest a lot of information regarding their upcoming trip. The Map Tab plays a role in helping travelers determine when the best time to leave is, and it empowers those taking on the road with crucial weather visualizations that will help them arrive at their destination safely. |
Night Mode | Night mode can be helpful when viewing routes and travel weather data in the dark. Night mode switches the display to a darker, more-easily readable-at-nighttime scheme. |
Normal Mode | Normal mode will display the Highway Weather app with the standard, brighter color scheme. |
Plan Ahead | "Plan Ahead" is an overarching function of Highway Weather that, as the name implies, empowers travelers with accurate and actionable weather and road-condition data. Plan Ahead allows travelers to select the ideal route, account for rest stops, and execute their trip in a data-driven way that helps them arrive safely. |
Rest Stops | Rest Stops are stopovers travelers may add to their Highway Weather itineraries from within the Details Tab when using the Plan Ahead feature. If a traveler adds a Rest Stop, all subsequent Forecast Points in their journey will automatically adjust to account for the time spent eating, sleeping, resting, and / or re-grouping. |
Route Selection Screen | The Route Selection Screen will appear after a traveler enters their starting point and destination(s) on the home screen. Travelers will be offered up to three routes from which to select on this screen. |
Settings Screen | The Settings Screen allows travelers to enter important information pertinent to their journey such as the type of vehicle in which they're traveling, their average travel speed, the units they'd like displayed, and the visual display of the Highway Weather app. The Settings Screen can be accessed from the Home Screen. |
Starting Location | The Starting Location is entered on the Home Screen. It can either be entered manually or by tapping the location icon next to to the text box to use Location Services to automatically calculate the starting location. |
Time Slider (Map & Details Tabs) | The Time Slider is found within the Plan Ahead function. In the Map and Details Tabs, the Time Slider is used to set the traveler's departure time (by the hour). |
Time Slider (Extended Tab) | In the Extended Tab, the Time Slider is used to set the day of extended forecasts the traveler would like to see. This Time Slider's increments are set by the day. |
Traffic Cameras (Traffic Cams) |
Where available, Highway Weather conveniently gives travelers the ability to view traffic cameras found along their journey's route. This offers travelers another layer of visual information to improve and inform their travel experience. Bear in mind that while Highway Weather will display all available traffic cameras along a route, traffic cameras may not exist at each noted forecast point throughout the route. |
Transit Method | The method of transit you select is important. Depending on your selection, Highway Weather will account for certain physics of your vehicle, optimizing your journey accordingly. |
Units | Whatever your preferences and location may be, Highway Weather allows you to choose the type of temperature, speed, and distance units displayed. You may select between: Metric, Imperial, and UK options. |
