Applying the correct Settings to your journey is an important step that helps Highway Weather give you the most accurate route, weather, and Forecast Point data.
Setting your average speed for a journey plays a role in this.
To begin, you'll need to open the Settings Screen from Highway Weather's home screen.
Opening the Settings Screen
Upon opening the app, you'll find the Settings icon on the home screen. Check out the screenshot below to see where you'll tap:
Then, after selecting your method of transit, set your average speed for your journey as illustrated below:

General Information
Speed, along with certain generalized physics of your type of transit (e.g., car, RV, commercial truck), help Highway Weather determine salient factors regarding your journey.
The good news is that Highway Weather will deliver proactive, informative, and actionable weather and road condition data to you - even with somewhat broad input parameters.
In other words, don't be too concerned about exquisite accuracy when it comes to your average speed, or, for example, selecting "car" as your mode of transport if you're actually traveling in a passenger pickup truck.
Generalized parameters will still return accurate results, and Highway Weather will continue to play a role in helping you arrive safely.
That said, we do want to offer some general guidelines that will apply to most travelers in a handful of different categories.
Note: These recommendations are just that - recommendations. Please be sure to observe all posted speed limits.
Setting Speed in a Car, SUV, or Passenger Pickup Truck
Mostly Freeway / Highway / Interstate Travel
You should set your speed in Settings based on the main type of road on which you'll be traveling. If the majority of your journey takes place on a freeway, highway, interstate, A-Road, autobahn, etc., you should set your speed on the rough guidelines below:
United States: 65 MPH
UK: 70 MPH
Europe / Canada / Mexico / Other Countries: 100-130 KPH (Depending on the country)
Mostly Local / Regional / Residential / "B-Roads" / etc.
You should set your speed in Settings based on the main type of road on which you'll be traveling. If the majority of your journey takes place on slower, non-freeway roads, you should set your speed on the rough guidelines below:
United States: 25-50 MPH
UK: 30-60 MPH
Europe / Canada / Mexico / Other Countries: 30-80 KPH (Depending on the country)
Setting Speed in an RV, Truck Towing a Large Trailer, Commercial Truck, Lorry, Box Truck, etc.
United States: 55 MPH
UK: 50-60 MPH
Europe / Canada / Mexico / Other Countries: 80-90 KPH (Depending on the country)
Mostly Local / Regional / Residential / "B-Roads" / etc.
If a traveler is operating one of the above vehicles on mostly slower, non-freeway roads, there's a lot of variability in the best average speed to choose in this situation.
It's highly suggested the driver consider the nature of their journey (frequent stops, time-consuming maneuvers, the effect of passenger-vehicle traffic, etc.) , and perhaps look up the suggested speed limit for vehicles of their type that will apply to the majority of their travel.
